I am using the post processor for Mach 3 Arc MM, and i can't make heads or tails out of how to set the Rapid Z to the specific number i want to. But it tries to rapid move around three times the speed my machine is capable of and i get rattling stepper motors and everything just goes to heck and i have to hit the e-stop. Rapid move rate, where in the world do you set the rapid Z rate in this bewildering software? I found the feed rates right away, right where i figured they would be in the tool settings, easy, set and forget.

This should be like glaringly simple in your face, but this software its not to be found anywhere!!!! I loaded the Avalon tutorial file, and i wanted to test it with some cheap 3mm birch but i can't tell it the material is 3mm thick so its thinking its working with something a half inch thick and it wants to cut down a 1/4" but that aint gonna work.Ģ. Can someone please point out where i can simply type in the material dimensions? X=, Y=, Z=. How in the world do you set the material size and thickness? This is something that is normally first step dead basic input on any other CAM software i have used, yet on Cut2D after about six hours of going through every tab, every window, every setting box, i have yet to find it.

Anyway, i finally got around that by downloading the tutorial files in Chrome.ġ.

Took me two days to find the tutorial files, since the directions in the help file are NOT CORRECT, there is no tuturials files option on the main screen when you open the program, and it when i tried to click on the tutorials link as was instructed by support email that didn't work either because it wanted to open Internet Explorer, being on Windows 10 i got an error message because it couldnt find the browser to open or some such. You can design the entire object in Solid Works and carve it out with cut 3-d but it will take forever with a small ball end mill.Ĭut 2-D and Cut 3-D limit you to 2 tools at a time so complicated objects will needs separate files to use additional tools.Ok i downloaded the trial of Cut2D hoping to use it, but so far its been a hair pulling nightmare!!!!! Chances are that you do not have a 4 axis machine anyway. You physically need to reposition the object for each side. If you cannot draw in 3-d, Cut 3-d is of limited value.Ĭut 3-D lets you carve all 6 sides of an object, one at a time. Again, an object file is required from some other program. He fine grinds the blades and removes the steps.Īrtwork and insignia on the handles is done in Cut 3-d. With Cut 2-d I offset the blade edge in 1/32 inch steps and let the mill follow the contours removing about 95% of the metal required. I just blank out the outline and rough mill the blade edges in steps. My brother designs swords and I mill them out for him. It is more for carving reliefs and artwork than true 3-d milling. I also use the DXF file for drilling and tapping with Centroid's conversational programing.Ĭut 3-d does not have a drawing portion so imported 3-d object files are required. I often save the drawing as a DXF and use it in my laser. I use it instead of the various cad programs that I have because it works so well. On the other hand, V-carve and the simpler Cut 2-D have a very intuitive drawing program built in. The programs are more router specific than milling machine specific so they lack a few features such as thread milling, compression tapping and tapered slopes that one might find on a true milling machine program. It works just as well on the mill as the ShopBot.

I later received a version of V-carve pro for my Centroid mill. I have a ShopBot and ShopBot specific versions of each program came bundled with the machine. These are two of the easiest to use, most intuitive, friendliest programs that you will ever find.
